Previous Oakham McDonald’s hoax in 2017
There was a previous incident in Oakham back in 2017 where flyers for a new McDonald’s restaurant were placed in the town centre. At the time this was reported as a hoax by Rutland Radio but it would seem McDonald’s was already considering a new restaurant in Oakham at that time.
No Planning Permission has yet been received by Rutland Council
A Rutland County Council spokesman has been reported by Leicester Mercury to have said: “We have been made aware of a consultation event being held by the food company McDonald’s as part of considerations for a potential restaurant in Oakham.
“We are yet to receive any formal planning application for a new McDonald’s restaurant at the Hawksmead Business Estate.
“If a planning application is received it will need to be assessed against national planning guidance and the Council’s own adopted planning policies.
“This would also require a statutory planning consultation asking members of the public and other interested groups to give their views on any proposals.

For the last few years, McDonald’s has been considering a potential restaurant in Oakham. Before any final decisions are made, we would like to invite you to an event to tell you more about out plans, hear feedback and get input from residents.
We have identified potentially suitable land at Hawksmead Business Estate, on Lands End Way.
Our exhibition aims to present you with plans for what a potential restaurant could look like, as well as highlight the local initiatives our restaurants bring. We are proud to play a part in the communities where we are located, and as always do our upmost to ensure our impact on the local area is a positive one. We also want to hear from you and give you an opportunity to let us know what you think.
As well as the 65 full and part-time jobs the proposed restaurant would create, we also provide industry-leading training and support to local projects and sports clubs.
We look forward to discussing these with you.
